Coldplay: Mylo Xyloto

The London-based alternative rock band Coldplay of Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion released the fifth studio album "Mylo Xyloto" on 24th October 2011. The album release preceded releasing of singles: "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall", "Paradise" and "Princess of China" featuring Rihanna. Coldplay confirmed they are the biggest band in the 21st century.

There is everything colourful on "Mylo Xyloto" - album cover, music video for "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" and sound. Martin's piano lines combine sparkling guitar motifs and simple direct beats. The choruses are bigger, the optimism more optimistic and textures grander on Coldplay's new album "Mylo Xyloto".

Lyrically, the album is inspired by "the anti-Nazi pacifist White Rose Movement" and "old school American graffiti". "Mylo Xyloto" is a concept album based on a love story with a happy ending. Coldplay have stated that they wanted to make their fifth studio album to be more acouistic and more intimate than the previous album "Viva la Vida".

The song "Paradise" didn't bring anything new it’s just another Viva la Vida's title-track or "Fix You"in contrast to new concept "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall". Coldplay should be less pop and more alternative rock.

J. Cole: Cole World The Sideline Story

The 26-years-old American rapper J. Cole released his debut album "Cole World The Sideline Story" on 27th September 2011. The album took two years to record under label headed by Jay-Z (Jay-Z gave to J. Cole as much time as he needed) and the final result is really great.

"Cole World The Sideline Story" followed three successful mixtapes. Production of "Cole World The Sideline Story" was made mainly by J. Cole himself. Rapper J. Cole has got less attention than the Young Money Entertainment members (Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, T-Pain, etc.).

The whole album structure is balanced by romantic raps, largely relaxed production and a few bangers. "Cole World The Sideline Story" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 218,000 units sold in the first week.

Lyrically there is song about uncertain love ("Nobody's Perfect" featuring Missy Elliott) and unplanned pregnancy ("Lost Ones"). J. Cole sings about highs and lows, dreams and reality in song "Dollar and a Dream III". Song "Breakdown" covers a deeply personal topic of his mother's battle with drugs and his relationship with his father. Listening to this album definitely isn't a wasting of your time.

Evanescence self-titled album

The American rock band Evanescence of singer Amy Lee, lead guitarist Terry Balsamo, bassist Tim McCord, rhythm guitarist Troy McLawhorn and drummer Will Hunt released their third self-titled studio album on 11th October 2011. Their new alternative metal album goes to public after five years from "The Open Door" release.

Amy Lee had an identity crisis and she needed to find herself. She did a lot of painting and listening to alternative rock music. After 18-months-long-Evanescence break Amy Lee decided to reborn Evanescence.

The release of the album “Evanescence” was changed several times because of changing producer. Evanescence wasn't satisfied with producer Steve Lillywhite who offered slow tempo and acoustic songs. So they started working together with producer Nick Raskulinecz (producer of Foo Fighters’ and Alice in Chains’ albums). Amy Lee stated: "Nick is an awesome producer". Nick Raskulinecz helped them to find real rock sound.

Amy Lee described the album as "better, stronger and more interesting". Songs are inspired by relationships, nature and relationships with fans. The album "Evanescence" is influenced by Björk, Depeche Mode, MGMT, Portishead and Massive Attack.

The first single "What You Want" was released on 9th August 2011. The song "What You Want" was described as band's heaviest and most different song with freedom topic and heavy guitar melodies. The ballad "Lost in Paradise" is compared to the song "Jóga" by singer Björk.

Demi Lovato: Unbroken

Demi Lovato released her third studio album "Unbroken" on 20th September 2011. Nineteen-years-old pop rock artist Demi Lovato named Rihanna and Keri Hilson as influences.

Demi Lovato worked on the album "Unbroken" especially after she returned from rehab. Her treatment for bulimia and self-injury took place in Illinois and lasted three months. Demi Lovato decided after rehab to give priority to musical career and leave her acting career.

The album "Unbroken" displays maturity and progression. Demi Lovato's vocals are unmatched compared to majority of vocalists or her previous efforts. The album contains not just ballads but also dance songs and that isn't Demi Lovato's style. She is better at pop rock songs like "All Night Long" or ballad "Skyscraper".
